Training for Student Employees

Training is mandatory when required by UC policy, risk assessments, governmental regulatory agencies, funding entities, accrediting bodies, and other entities external to UC Merced. This page lists training that is mandatory for all undergraduate students at UC Merced, as well as training that is only required of students engaging in specific activities, such as working in laboratories.

All UC employees, including student employees, are required to complete the following mandatory training:

Employee mandatory training is available in the UC Learning Center and will be listed on the Required Training screen. If you do not have an active job/appointment you are not required to complete training and will not see training listed on the required training screen. Please check the required training screen every time you start a new job to ensure your training is up to date.

For more information about mandatory training for employees, visit http://ethics.ucmerced.edu/mandatory-training. Note: student employees are not required to attend staff New Employee Orientation.

If you will be working in a laboratory...

Students who will be working in laboratories must complete Lab Safety Fundamentals prior to starting work in the lab.

Other lab safety training is required based on the type of lab or research. If you will be working in a lab, talk to your PI or Faculty Advisor about which courses you are required to complete. More information can be found on the EH&S website https://ehs.ucmerced.edu/form/register-trainings

If you will be working with student information...

FERPA is recommended for people who may have access to student information, such as Teaching Assistants. You can access the FERPA course through the UC Learning Center or use this link: Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Training
